What this calculator does

An EV charging cost calculator determines how much you'll spend to charge an electric vehicle from one battery state to another. Unlike gas vehicles, EV costs depend on electricity rates, battery capacity, charging efficiency, and driving distance.

How it works

The calculator takes your battery capacity in kWh, current and desired charge percentages, and local electricity rate. It calculates energy needed and multiplies by the rate to determine cost, then divides by driving range to show cost per mile.

Formula

Energy Needed (kWh) = Battery Capacity × (Desired SOC % − Current SOC %) ÷ 100. Total Charge Cost = Energy Needed × Electricity Rate. Cost per Mile = Total Charge Cost ÷ (Energy Needed × Miles per kWh).
